Sergeant First Class Terryl L. Pasker

Hometown: Cedar Rapids IA

February 26, 1972 - July 9, 2011

Pasker was assigned to Company B, 334th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, Cedar Rapids IA.

Pasker was killed July 9 by an Afghan National Directorate Security officer during a mounted patrol,in Panjshir Province, Afghanistan at approximately 9:30 a.m., local time..

Pasker's assailant was killed by Master Sergeant Todd Eipperle of Marshalltown IA who was wounded in the exchange.

Specialist Robert L Voakes

Hometown: L'Anse MI

February 6, 1990 - June 4, 2011

Voakes, a military police officer, was assigned to the 3rd Platoon, 164th Military Police Company, 793rd Military Police Battalion, Fort Richardson AK. His platoon was attached to the 1st Battalion, 133rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, Camp Dodge IA.

Voakes died June 4 of wounds suffered that day in an improvised explosive device attack outside the village of Khanda in Laghman Province, Afghanistan.

Voakes was a proud Native American, Nigig-enz (Little Otter), of the Keweenaw Indian Community in upper Michigan.




Sergeant Christopher R. Bell

Hometown: Saint Joseph MI

January 5, 1990 - June 4, 2011

Bell, a military police officer, was assigned to the 3rd Platoon, 164th Military Police Company, 793rd Military Police Battalion, Fort Richardson AK. His platoon was attached to the 1st Battalion, 133rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, Camp Dodge IA.

Bell was killed June 4 in an improvised explosive device attack outside the village of Khanda in Laghman Province, Afghanistan.




Sergeant Joshua D. Powell

Hometown: Tyler TX

September 8, 1982 - June 4, 2011

Staff Sergeant James A. Justice

Hometown: Grimes IA

June 30, 1978 - April 23, 2011

Justice was assigned to Troop A, 1st Squadron, 113th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, Camp Dodge IA.

Justice was killed April 23 by enemy small arms fire during rescue operations of a U.S. Army OH-58 helicopter crew who were injured when their aircraft made a hard landing in Alah Say District, Kapisa Province, Afghanistan.

Specialist Donald L. Nichols

Hometown: Shell Rock IA

September 3, 1989 - April 13, 2011

Nichols was assigned to Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 133rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, Waterloo IA.

Nichols was killed April 13 during a mounted patrol when the Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected, All-Terrain Vehicle (MATV) in which he was an occupant was struck by an Improvised Explosive Device in the Mehtar Lam District, Laghman Province, Afghanistan.

Sergeant Brent M. Maher

Hometown: Honey Creek IA

December 3, 1979 - April 11, 2011

Maher was assigned to Company B, 1st Battalion, 168th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, Shenandoah IA.

Maher was killed April 11 during a mounted patrol when the "Cougar" Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle in which he was the gunner, was struck by an Improvised Explosive Device in Paktya Province, Afghanistan.
